Treatment of acne

Treatment of acne

It can be difficult to find the best acne treatment for a particular patient. Each person has a different skin type and everyone’s skin is a little bit different. Besides, there are several types of acne. Therefore, no universal acne treatment method exists.

How to make acne go away?

A dermatologist will recommend the best treatment for your acne. Since there are a lot of medical procedures and drugs, there is specific order in which they are chosen.  Your physician will not prescribe the strongest drug until lower potency medication is not tried out and declined as ineffective. The same goes with medical procedures – dermatologist will not suggest laser treatment if less intensive methods had not been tried. Botox, steroid injections and other invasive procedures are not of first choice for treating acne. Treatment of acne also depends whether you have mild, moderate or severe form of the disease:

  • Mild acne treatment include benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid.
  • Benzoyl peroxide is also used to treat moderate acne. This type of acne can be treated with antibiotics, either in topical or oral form. In addition, azelaic acid and retinoids are also effective for moderate acne.
  • Oral retinoids can be used to treat severe acne.

Acne treatment that works in one case may be not as effective as in another. If specific drug or procedure helped very well for your friend, it does not mean it will be equally effective in your case.

Acne and pimples treatment also involves laser procedures. Lasers spread light bundle, which can be red, blue or mixed. This light is supposed to kill Propionibacterium acnes, the bacteria that cause acne. Although this method is widely used in medical practice, it is not researched enough.
